BIOGRAPHY
Sigfredo Velez was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, where his strong desire to draw began with his first box of crayons. Since then, he has extended his range of medium to charcoal, scratchboard, watercolor, but prefers oil paint. Depending on the medium, Velez's styles can range from realism to expressionism. He is recognized for his extensive use of colors and expressing deep emotions in his works. This is in part credited to his education at the Art Institute of Seattle, where he received his Associates of Applied Arts degree in Visual Communications and Illustration.
During this time Velez met his mentor, world renowned, Seattle-based artist, James Crespinel. As an apprentice of Crespinel, Velez was able to perfect his craft as they worked together on the Reebok Mural in Seattle. Velez's works have been showcased in Spindrift Magazine and exhibited in Harvard University as well as the White House. Velez accomplished one of his biggest dreams when he was able to lend his talent to the Jimi Hendrix Estate by creating designs for Jimi Hendrix paraphernalia. Like most artists, Velez has put forth great effort to prioritize his professional and personal life with his love of art.
"I'm a messenger of my dreams."
“The Difference between Painting and other forms of creativity, like writing or film making is that planning is a preverbal experience. For me great art is art that creates a moment before something is resolved, So that you have an experience without words already formed to describe it.” - Eric Fiscl |
